Date Night at Chiquito Restaurant: Sizzling New Menu

Seasoned Popcorn at Chiquito

Seasoned Popcorn at Chiquito

When I was contacted to have a date night at Chiquito Restaurant and review their new sizzling menu, I agreed straight away.

We always pass by Chiquito in Leicester Square and there is always a queue waiting to be seated, which is a good sign, it means that Chiquito is quite popular.

Mojito Cocktail

Mojito Cocktail

As a couple, we don’t get much time out by ourselves as little man goes to bed early and we are usually home in the evenings.

So whenever we get the chance, we make the most of a couple of hours on our own.

Chiquito’s philosophy is “our dishes are made with the tastiest of ingredients, packed full of flavour to really tantalise your taste buds.

Whether you are looking for a tasty treat or a light bite, our menu features sizzling specials, hot fajitas and Mexican favourites for the more adventurous.”

Southern Fried Chicken & BBQ Pulled Pork

Once we arrived at Chiquito, we were offered a complimentary bowl of seasoned popcorn, it was very tasty and lovely start of our meal.

As it was a night out, I had to order one of Chiquito’s lovely cocktails: I went for Mojito and it was very refreshing!

Hubby ordered a Tex Mex dish: Southern Fried Chicken & BBQ Pulled Pork (RRP £13.95) which is Chiquito’s number one favourite. Southern fried chicken breast topped with BBQ pulled pork and melted cheesed.

The dish was served with skin-on-fries, corn on the cob, onion rings, coleslaw and BBQ sauce.

Hubby was very impressed with his meal, it was nice and well seasoned. The fried chicken was crispy and juicy with succulent pork.

It went really well with the crispy spicy onion rings and the other ingredients on the plate.

Fiery Chilli Chicken Fajita

Fiery Chilli Chicken Fajita

I am a big fan of fajitas, so I ordered Fiery Chilli Chicken Fajita (RRP £13.95).

Chiquito offers a large selection of fajitas, so you can choose from grilled steak, to tiger prawns and blackened salmon.

I went for grilled chicken breast marinated in habaneros and lime sauce, which was spicy but not overpowering. The chicken was cooked to perfect and very tasty.

Tortilla, Salsa, Cheese, Sour Cream and Guacamole

The Fiery Chilli Chicken was served over a bed of spiced fajita onions and mixed peppers on a hot plate, which kept the dish hot throughout the evening.

The dish comes with four warm, soft flour tortillas, they were wrapped to stay fresh.

There was also a selection of fajita toppings: grated cheese, salsa, sour cream and guacamole.

I really enjoyed my fajitas and making each tortilla.

Dessert Sharing Platter

Dessert Sharing Platter

After our main course, we shared a Dessert Platter (RRP £7.95) which comes with a lovely selection of favourite desserts.

There were Churros, which are deliciously soft dough, fried until crispy and golden.

They are sprinkled with cinnamon sugar and served with a pot of chocolate flavour sauce for dipping.

Churros are freshly baked and served warm, they were incredibly tasty and reminded me of Brazil.

Churros are largely available in Brazil, you can buy them on the streets from mobile vans.

There was also Chocolate Brownie which is a moist chocolate brownie served warm with vanilla ice cream.

The chocolate brownie was very tasty and the ice cream complimented the dish.

The dessert platter was beautifully decorated with strawberries and chocolate sauce. The selection was desserts went very well together and the dish was perfect for two to share.

The dessert platter was a perfect end to our date night, we left Chiquito commenting how lovely our meal was.

Although we had to wait for our table, we could stay at the bar enjoying a relaxing drink.

The staff was very nice and friendly, they made us feel welcome and relaxed throughout the evening. Our meal was very tasty and the portions were quite generous!

While we were there, I’ve noticed that Chiquito offers a lunch menu on weekdays from only £5.95 for main means and you can add a starter or dessert for £2.50.

I have also noticed that mums eat free on Mother’s Day when you purchase another main meal, so I know what I will be having on Mother’s Day – fajitas at Chiquito!

You can follow Chiquito on Twitter and Chiquito on Facebook

We were given a voucher to visit Chiquito for review purposes. However the opinions expressed in this review are honest and my own.

Dinner at Carom: Authentic Indian Cuisine

Carom Restaurant in Soho

Carom Restaurant in Soho

On Saturday, we had the opportunity to visit Carom and tried their authentic Indian cuisine.

Hubby and I are a big fan of Indian food, so we couldn’t wait to try it.

Carom is a Pan Indian restaurant and bar located in the heart of Soho in London.

Carom is D&D’s first Indian restaurant. D&D London owns and operates over 30 of the most famous restaurants in London, Paris, New York and Tokyo.

Each D&D restaurant is unique and Carom, Soho’s hidden gem, is one of them.

Carom, named after the Indian spice (also known as ajwain), specialises in authentic pan Indian dishes.

It offers an extensive choice of dishes in a variety of sizes allows you to tailor your menu to your appetite.

You can sample just a few plates with a drink or take your time over an indulgent feast.

White Wine: Chenin Blanc

White Wine: Chenin Blanc

The A la carte menu was developed by head chef Balaji Balachander.

The menu is inspired from Indian street food and varied regional influences of India. We had a three course meal from their set menu.

There are three options of starters, main courses and desserts, including vegetarian options.

Ideally, hubby and I would like to have gone our for dinner on our own, however we didn’t manage to arrange childcare for our little boy.

Poppadom with Homemade Chutneys

Poppadom with Homemade Chutneys

Once I mentioned to the restaurant that our three-year-old son would be coming with us, they were very accommodating and understanding.

We had an early dinner, as we were aware that the restaurant would get quite busy in the evening.

It was our first visit to Carom, I loved the idea of having a candlelight dinner in one of their booths. It felt quite private and intimate!

Chicken Satay

Chicken Satay

They have a two hour turn-round policy on Saturdays, but the time was more than enough to enjoy our meal without having to rush.

We had a bottle of Chenin Blanc 2010, Bush Vine Kleine Zalze from South Africa with our meal. It is an easy drinking, refreshing white wine.

Little man had Poppadom with a selection of homemade chutneys as a starter, the poppadom was nice and crispy, while the chutneys were full of flavour.

“Hariyali” Turkey Tikka

“Hariyali” Turkey Tikka

Our little boy picked Chicken Satay with herb marinade as a main course.

The chicken satay comes with a chilli and mango chutney, which is very tasty!

Hubby ordered “Hariyali” which is Turkey tikka in green herb marinate, tandoor grilled with fig and cranberry chutney.

According to hubby, the turkey tikka was very nice, succulent and juicy.

I tried some of it – for reviewing purposes – and I agree, the turkey tikka was very tasty!

Shammi Kebab

Shammi Kebab

I ordered “Shammi Kebab” which is ground lamb with aromatic spices.

Shammi Kebab is served with pomegranate raita and mint chutney. The Shammi Kebab was beautifully cooked and seasoned.

When I read the menu, I was curious to find out  if the pomegranate raita would go down well with the dish. I was pleasantly surprised that it worked nicely with the texture and flavours of the dish.

Tandoor Grilled Chicken Breast

Tandoor Grilled Chicken Breast

As a main course, hubby and I ordered the same dish. We usually order different dishes when we go out, so we can try each other’s dish, but there was no way I would share mine with him this time.

We ordered Tandoor grilled Chicken Breast with garlic and black pepper marinade.

Tandoor grilled Chicken Breast is served with Tamarind rice in coconut and cashew korma sauce.

The sauce was very tasty and the chicken was tender and we could clearly taste the marinade. The rice complimented the dish perfectly well.

White and Dark Chocolate Mousse

White and Dark Chocolate Mousse

For desserts, hubby chose White and Dark Chocolate Mousse with green apple and vanilla custard.

I had a feeling he would go for a chocolate based dessert.

White and Dark Chocolate Mousse is a colourful dish, beautifully presented with a strawberry on the top.

It is a layered mousse, you can clearly see and taste the white and dark chocolate mousses. The flavours complimented each other, making it a delicious dessert.

Fennel Spiced Bread and Butter Pudding

Fennel Spiced Bread and Butter Pudding

I wanted to try their Fennel spiced bread and butter pudding with cinnamon ice cream.

The bread and butter pudding was served warm with a caramelised crust on the top.

The bread and butter pudding was creamy and luscious. It tasted lovely with the cinnamon ice cream.

At Carom, you can enjoy two courses for £10 and a three course meal like the one we had for only £15, which we found very reasonable.

Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal, it was very tasty and full of flavour. The staff was friendly and helpful! We look forward to going back to Carom restaurant!

Thank you very much to Carom and London24 for this wonderful dining experience!

I was under no obligation to write this post. The opinions expressed in this post are honest and my own.

Strada Food Reviewer: Strata Special Tasting Menu

Strada Restaurant in Islington

I was delighted when I was informed I had been selected to become an official Strada Food Reviewer.

Strada offers great quality, freshly prepared pizzas, pastas and risottos served in stylish, contemporary surroundings.

My task was to visit our local restaurant to sample the new Strada menu, which provides an authentic culinary tour through the streets of Italy.

We went to the Islington branch with friends to try the new tasting menu.

Our meal started with olives, large green Castelvetrano olives, fresh from Sicily.

The olives were very tasty!

We also had Antipasto as a starter to share.

Antipasto is a platter of Italian flavours

It includes Parma ham, Napoli salami and speck ham from Trentino.

Antipasto also has buffalo mozzarella from Campania, vine-ripened tomatoes, olive tapenade and bruschetta pomodoro.

Schiacciatella Aglio Flat Bread

The antipasto went down really well with the Schiacciatella aglio flat bread which is a basket of hand stretched garlic and rosemary flat bread.

The olive tapenade complimented the flat bread, and together it was an explosion of flavour.

The bread was freshly baked, nice and soft, and we could really taste the rosemary.

Orata al Forno

We were spoiled with five different main courses.

I had Orata al Forno, a whole sea bream, pan roasted with lemon and thyme.

Orata al Forno was served with a green salad and roasted new potatoes.

The fish was moist and tasty, full of flavour.

My only complaint is that the fish had too many bones, so perhaps it would have been better if the fish was off the bone.

Risotto Zucca

Hubby had Risotto Zucca.

The risotto was very colourful, it had pumpkin, butternut squash, pancetta, spinach and pine nuts.

Hubby said that he could taste the different flavours and the risotto was seasoned to perfection.

Strozzapreti Pugliese

One of our friends had Strozzapreti Pugliese, a classic dish from Puglia.

It is a traditional hand twisted Strozzapreti pasta.

The pasta comes with Luganica sausage, pancetta and broccoli, with red chilli butter and Grana Padano cheese.

Our friend highlighted that the pasta was beautifully cooked.

Besides, the sausage and pancetta complimented the dish.

Saltimbocca Maiale

Our other friend had Saltimbocca Maiale.

It is pork fillet with crispy Parma ham, served with mashed potato, green beans and a sage butter sauce.

Our friend said that the pork fillet was cooked just right and the mashed potato was as creamy as it should be.

Quattro Stagioni pizza

We all shared Quattro Stagioni pizza.

It is basically four pizzas in one: Luganica sausage, Italian cotto ham, roasted artichoke and chestnut mushrooms.

The pizza was crispy and very tasty. I found it quite clever that you could have four different flavours in one pizza.

In case you are not sure which pizza to have, you don’t need to make a choice.

You can just order Quattro Stagioni and you will enjoy different toppings.

We finished off our meal with three different desserts:

Affogato which is iced nougat semi-freddo ice cream with a shot of hot, fresh espresso to pour over the top.

The semi-freddo ice cream is luscious and it goes down really well with the hot coffee.

The creamy semi-freddo with the strong and sharp taste of coffee compliment each other.

Bunet Piemontese

Our other dessert was Bunet Piemontese, which is quite similar to a Panacotta.

It is a soft rich custard made with Italian chocolate and hazelnuts.

Bunet Piemontese is topped with crushed Amaretti biscuits and a generous splash of amaretto liqueur.

Bunet Piemontese was my favourite dessert as the creamy chocolate makes a very tasty combination with the crunchy biscuits.

Besides, the amaretto liquer brings out the best out of the dish.

Pistachio Gelato

We also had Pistachio Gelato, which is especially made for Strada to a traditional artisan recipe from Marche in central Italy.

Pistachio Gelato was very creamy and full of flavour.

Overall, we really enjoyed our meal at Strada. The staff was friendly and the atmosphere was great!

I should add that it was our first time at Strada, but it certainly won’t be the last.

On our way home, we were commenting how much we enjoyed our meal.

We are planning on coming back soon as the dishes were full of flavour and very tasty.

The whole dining experience at Strada was very enjoyable!

The meal was provided free of charge for review purposes. However the opinions expressed in this review are honest and my own.
